Switching to a static blog with Metalsmith

I used to have a blog until recently. The problem was that it was pretty neglected. There were only a few posts, and all of them were out of date. I have been busy for quite a while, and fixing my blog was a low priority. Until now.

Wordpress is a platform I know well, and used for my site and blog last time I renewed it. This time, though, I've chosen to go static. Why use a static site? Well, I'm a web developer, so don't need the CMS to get code on to a site. I know I won't be making frequent posts, so from that point of view there's no time-saving, and performance should be good when I'm only serving static files. No PHP, no database, no nothing.

After looking at a few different options for generating the site, I decided to go with Metalsmith. I'll give it a go for a while and see how we get on.
